Children hop on and off for free with our 3-for-1 Kids’ Special
It’s time for City Sightseeing’s annual 3-for-1 Kids’ Special again, which means you can take two kids (under 18) along for free when you buy one adult one-day bus ticket or Harbour Cruise ticket. The special runs from 1 May to 8 October 2017 (Cape Town) and 1 May to 23 October 2017 (Joburg) and is valid on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
For more information, have a look at our #AsktheRedBusSA blog.
Children can take in the sights and sounds of the city with their very own audio channel. They’ll also love these stops in Cape Town and Joburg along the way:
The Two Oceans Aquarium (stop 1)
The aquarium makes for an exciting first stop for the whole family, offering a variety of display tanks, interactive experiences, a touch pool and the well-known predators’ tank. Visit the aquarium at feeding time and watch the flurry of activity. City Sightseeing ticket holders can look forward to a discount of R10 for adults and R5 for children on entry.
The Clock Tower (stop 2)
Don’t forget to visit the Chavonnes Battery Museum and experience the early history of Cape Town and this bustling port. The Clock Tower Centre also houses a number of arts and crafts outlets for purchasing souvenirs to remember your special day. Visitors get 20% off on entry to the Chavonnes Battery Museum on presentation of a City Sightseeing ticket.
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (stop 7)
For those memorable holiday snaps, hop on the City Tour bus to Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. Go up the mountain in a cable car, take in the 360-degree views of the Cape Peninsula and see how many animals you can spot. Skip the ticket queue by buying your Cableway ticket on the bus.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (stop 20)
All this exploring has probably made you hungry, and what better place to have lunch than at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Renowned for the beauty and diversity of its Cape flora, this is the perfect stop. Even better than the view is the 10% discount each red-bus passenger receives on his or her meal at Moyo Kirstenbosch.
World of Birds (stop 22)
Don’t forget to also hop on the Mini Peninsula Tour and visit the World of Birds. This unique stop is home to more than 3 000 birds and over 400 different species of small animals, which means you can look forward to your very own Cape Town safari. City Sightseeing ticket holders receive a R5 discount on entry.
Top tip: Combine the 3-for-1 Kids’ Special with our Pensioner Special (Cape Town only)
During school holidays the 3-for-1 Kids’ Special can be combined with our Pensioner Special, which runs on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Pensioner Special allows pensioners to buy half-price tickets for the red bus and Harbour Cruise at any stop or on the bus (not available online). Combining the two means grandpa and grandma can get a 50% discount on their tickets on Tuesdays and Fridays and take along the grandchildren for free! Hop on the bus at any stop but remember to bring your barcoded South African ID along to qualify for the Pensioner Special.

Carlton Centre (stop 11)
Be amazed at the views of Joburg from the top of the highest building in Africa. Meet your City Sightseeing guide at stop 11, from where you’ll be taken to the 50th floor in a high-speed lift. From a height of more than 220m, the city looks like a children’s street-map rug and the vehicles like toy cars. On a clear day you can even see airplanes landing at OR Tambo International Airport.
James Hall Museum of Transport (stop 12)
Hop off at South Africa’s biggest land-transport museum and one of Joburg’s best-kept secrets. Here you’ll see everything from old penny-farthing bicycles, animal-drawn carts and ox wagons to steam locomotives, Joburg’s first tram, electric cars and fire engines.
Gold Reef City (stop 13)
Visit the Gold Reef City Theme Park, which offers exhilarating rides such as the Tower of Terror and the Anaconda. While some rides are only for adults and bigger children, there is plenty of entertainment for younger children too, making Gold Reef City the perfect family-friendly destination. You can even take a trip down a former gold mine for only R100.
The Apartheid Museum (stop 14)
The Apartheid Museum is a world-class facility that provides a walk-through history lesson, illustrating the days of apartheid with film footage and informative, interactive displays. This stop is the perfect choice when it comes to educating children (12 years and older) about South Africa’s journey to becoming a democratic country.
Sci-Bono Discovery Centre (stop 15)
Do you have an inquisitive child who likes to learn new things and have fun at the same time? Then the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown is the perfect stop. This interactive science and technology museum aims to create an interest in maths, science and engineering among young people.
A City Sightseeing ticket entitles you to discounts at several of our stops. Please check the back of your ticket for details.
In Johannesburg, the 3-for-1 Kids' Special cannot be combined with any other special offer. Buy your Joburg tickets here.
