Two Oceans Aquarium: City Sightseeing red bus stop 1

07 september 2018

One of the most popular stops on the City Sightseeing red bus route is located at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town’s leading tourist destination. Hop off the red bus at stop 1 to access the Two Oceans Aquarium, where Capetonians, visitors and school groups can enjoy so much. The Two Oceans Aquarium is famous for its unparalleled ocean and marine-life experiences.

The Aquarium houses more than 3 000 creatures from the Atlantic and Indian oceans and has activities and exhibits that have been carefully designed to be enjoyed by both adults and kids. Once you hop off the City Sightseeing red bus at the Two Oceans Aquarium, a series of adventures begins ...

Family Activities

The I&J Children’s Play Centre is perfectly suited for families travelling with children. It is a space dedicated to kids between three and nine years, and is packed with fun activities, marine-themed arts and crafts, puzzles and books. There are even entertaining and educational puppet shows three times a day.

Discoveries are frequently made at the aquarium

Head to the Touch Pool  for an interactive and educational tour of kelp, starfish, anemones and hermit crabs, and the Microscope Exhibit, which will open up a world of delicate tentacles, tube feet, suckers and nippers. The Microscope Exhibit lets you watch remarkable creatures in their natural habitat at close range as they give birth, feed and interact with one another.

Northern Rockhopper Penguins

Get to know more about northern rockhopper penguins – the Aquarium, through its Penguin Experience, offers adults and kids who are eight years and older an opportunity to engage in exhilarating face-to-face encounters with rockhopper penguins. You can also watch them during their feeding time (between 11.30am and 2.30pm daily).

Aquarium Dive

If diving with fish, turtles and rays is on your bucket list, then the Aquarium has you covered. Parents and kids are welcome (but kids need to be over the age of 12). If you’re not a qualified diver, rest easy – the Aquarium, with the assistance of a qualified guide, offers a one-day Discover Scuba course, entitling you to a dive with turtles and rays on the same day.

Alternate Activities

More to discover when you hop off at stop 1 at the V&A Waterfront One of the landmarks at the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is the Cape Wheel, a giant observation wheel with 30 fully enclosed, air-conditioned cabins (two are wheelchair friendly) that reach up to 40m above the ground with spectacular views of Table Mountain, the Cape Town Stadium and Robben Island.

A short walk will get you to Nobel Square, which features bronze sculptures of South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize winners: the late Nkosi Albert Luthuli, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and the late Nelson Mandela.
