Spend a day on the Cape Explorer Cape Point Tour

20 July 2017

A popular destination with tourists and locals alike, the Cape Point Nature Reserve is a fantastic spot to visit all season. This year, City Sightseeing launched its Cape Explorer Cape Point Tour, a live-guided, full-day excursion to this one-of-a-kind spot and surrounding areas.

So, what makes this particular route special? Visitors can enjoy a day out in a luxury, air-conditioned coach, with an on-board tour guide sharing information. It’s the longest tour on the City Sightseeing roster and guests are advised to allocate a day to enjoy the outing.

The route comprises a wide range of sights, including Boulders Beach, Cape Point and spectacular coastal scenery on the way back. Quaint villages en route, such as Scarborough and Kommetjie, offer plenty of material for those incredible Instagram shots.

Did you know?

Cape Point is often mistakenly called the southernmost tip of Africa, but that title is reserved for Cape Agulhas, 100km east of the Cape Point Nature Reserve.

In 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias gave the “Cape of Storms” its famous nickname. The original lighthouse at Cape Point was built in 1893. The lighthouse that is currently functional was erected in 1914 and has a range of over 60km.

Boulders Beach is one of the prime spots in South Africa to see the African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) in its natural habitat.

Travellers’ tips
