Ruhan and his family chose to celebrate Father’s Day on board the red bus, where they hopped off in Hout Bay for lunch. His mom Zena described the trip as wonderful and said it was “great getting an almost different perspective” of Cape Town. She added that they also learnt some history they were not aware of. “Ruhan had a lovely trip and was asking questions based on what he learnt. My husband loved his gift (the bus trip) more, because of the effort made by Ruhan when he entered the competition.”

Siblings Jamie (15) and Zeta (12) Lynas also won a set of family tickets for Cape Town. They entered the competition with a photo of their dad saying, “Our dad is someone who holds us when we sad, groans when we break the rules, shines with pride when we succeed and has faith in us even when we fail.”

Tebogo Mokake, who said his dad is awesome and “everything from a father, friend [and] uncle to a mother”, is one of the lucky Joburg winners. He is very excited to hop onto the red bus and get to know the city better.

“He even quit smoking for me,” said 9-year-old Josh Brown about his dad, Gordon. His mom Roshen said the family had an amazing time on the bus. “I am so very glad that Josh entered the Father’s Day competition; we got to celebrate his and his dad’s birthdays in pure Jozi style!

“We started off our journey from Gold Reef City and were little icicles by the time we reached Braamfontein, but as soon as we entered the Neighbourgoods Market, we were defrosted, indulging in paella and Chinese food for breakfast!”

They explored the rest of Braamfontein and also hopped off at Constitution Hill. “Unfortunately, time got the better of us and we had to head back home. No doubt, we will definitely be back again to explore our beautiful, vibrant city atop the stunning red bus!” added Roshen.
