Cape Town: You can start the tour at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend our tour offices outside the Two Oceans Aquarium (stop 1) and at 81 Long Street (stop 5).

Joburg: You can hop on at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend you start your tour from The Zone @ Rosebank (stop 1) – the Gautrain station is walking distance and there's ample parking available if arriving by car (see parking tariffs here). Another option, if you're using private transport, is to start at Constitution Hill (stop 5) if you're using private transport. At Constitution Hill you can hop on the Green Tour or Red City Tour

Our buses run every day of the year, but on certain days we suspend specific routes. Please be sure to check our latest timetable.
Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. If you’re going to hop on and off with us on Christmas and/or New Year’s Day in Cape Town, please note which stops won’t be open and on which days.

Closed on Christmas Day (25 December 2017) and New Year's Day (1 January 2018):

Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. You can hop on and off at The Zone @ Rosebank, Zoo Lake, Johannesburg Zoo, Carlton Centre and the Mining District Walk 365 days a year. Here's a list of the rest of our stops and when they’re closed: 

  • Ditsong National Museum of Military History: Good Friday, 25 December
  • James Hall Museum of Transport: Every Monday, every third weekend of the month, 25 and 26 December
  • Constitution Hill: Good Friday, 25 and 26 December, 1 January. Closes at 3pm on 24 and 31 December
  • Apartheid Museum: Good Friday, 25 December, 1 January 
  • Gold Reef City Theme Park (next to the Apartheid Museum): Mondays and Tuesdays (except during Gauteng public school holidays), 25 December
  • Newtown Precinct: SAB World of Beer – 25 December; Sci-Bono Discovery Centre – 25 December, 1 January and Good Friday
  • Newtown Junction Mall: Market Theatre – 21 December to 3 January 
  • Origins Centre at Wits: 25 December to 4 January 
  • Braamfontein: Doubleshot coffee & tea – 16, 25 and 26 December, 1 January

Here’s a list of stops on the Soweto leg of our Red City Tour and Soweto Combo that are closed on certain days:

  • Mandela House: 25 December, 1 January
  • Hector Pieterson Museum: 25 December, 1 January
  • Sakhumzi Restaurant: 25 December, 1 January 
  • Vilakazi Street: 31 December

There are three ways to buy tickets:

  • On the bus, at any one of our scheduled stops along the way
  • At our tour offices. In Cape Town, there's one at the V&A Waterfront and one at 81 Long Street. In Joburg, our tour office is situated at The Zone @ Rosebank
  • Discounted online – buy tickets for Cape Town or Joburg (please note that Pensioner Special tickets are not available online) 
  • Pensioner Special tickets can only be bought at one of our ticket offices or on the bus on presentation of a South African ID

To hop on, simply print out your ticket and present it to the bus driver. Don't have a printer handy? Bring your barcode number to a City Sightseeing tour office and redeem your ticket. Alternatively, have your barcode scanned by your bus driver as you hop on the bus.

Yes, all our buses are fully equipped with card facilities. Please note, however, that we do not accept American Express cards.

Yes, majority of our buses on the Red City Tour and Blue Mini Peninsula Tour in Cape Town are wheelchair friendly. All our buses in Joburg are wheelchair friendly. If you're unsure or require assistance, please ask one of our friendly staff members to help you. 

By law a passenger bus is not required to have seat belts on all its seats. The only seats that do require a seat belt are the ones that have no seat directly in front of them. For this reason, we have a limited number of buses equipped with seat belts. 

If tickets are purchased at one our of tour offices, they are valid for that day only (or for that day and the following day if you're buying a two-day ticket). If tickets are bought online, they are valid for 14 days from the date of purchase.  

Tickets do not include entrance fees to the stops. However, if you check the back of your ticket, you'll see a list of stops where you'll receive a discount on entrance fees – simply show your City Sightseeing ticket when you enter. 

No, a one-day red bus ticket is valid for an entire day and a two-day ticket for two consecutive days – until the last departure. This means you can hop on and hop off as many times as you'd like at no additional cost.

No, you only have to make a reservation for our sidecar tours. Buying your ticket online, however, entitles you to a discount. Alternatively, purchase your ticket from one of our tour offices or from a bus driver at any of our stops. Seats on the bus are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The Red City Tour includes a stop at Table Mountain.

The Blue Mini Peninsula Tour takes you on a scenic route that includes Kirstenbosch and offers a link to our Purple Wine Tour of Constantia Valley.

Cape Town:

In Cape Town you can use it on any of the main tours (Red, Blue, Yellow or Purple). 

In Joburg you can use one ticket on both the Green Tour and the Red City Tour.  

  • The two-day ticket costs R290 per adult, while the online price is R270 (save R20)
  • Children aged five to 17 pay R180
  • Children under five can ride for free (only two children allowed per paying adult)

This ticket is valid for two consecutive days and can be used on any of the following tours in Cape Town:

  • Red City Tour
  • Blue Mini Peninsula Tour
  • Yellow Downtown Tour
  • Purple Wine Tour
  • Waterfront Harbour Cruise

In Joburg, this ticket can be used for two consecutive days on the Green Tour and Red City Tour, giving you plenty of time to discover Jozi. 

Yes, a two-day ticket has to be used over two consecutive days. In Cape Town, the free tours you receive with this deal (Waterfront Harbour Cruise and Sunset Bus) can be used on the third consecutive day.

The Blue Route Pass is a one-day red bus ticket, plus FREE entry to three of Cape Town’s top attractions along our Blue Mini Peninsula Tour. It gives locals and visitors the opportunity to create their own travel itinerary with our open-top, double-decker red buses.

A Blue Route Pass allows you to only hop on the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour and gives you FREE entry to three of Cape Town's top attractions along the route.

The Blue Mini Peninsula Tour is one of four tours you can hop on, hop off with a 1-day or 2-day red bus ticket. Red bus ticket holders get discounts at select stops, not free entry. 
 

Pack your picnic basket, blanket and sunglasses as this tour takes you on an unforgettable sunset trip. It provides glimpses of the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Signal Hill and great photo opportunities of Cape Town settling into nightlife.

The Sunset Bus is available from 23 September 2016 to 1 May 2017 and departs daily from stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront between 5.30pm and 6pm. 

Make sure to arrive at stop 1 half an hour before the departure time. The tour duration is two to three hours.

The Purple Wine Tour is an extension of the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour. It starts at Constantia Nek and takes you into Constantia Valley, where you can explore three wine estates: Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm. 

  • The Purple Wine Tour is included in the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour at no cost
  • Entrance fees, wine tastings and wine are for your own account

Our sidecar tours, in World War II motorcycles with a sidecar, depart daily from bus stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium, stop 5 at 81 Long Street, or directly from your hotel. This is a private chauffeur-driven tour with a minimum booking of two people per tour. One passenger sits behind the chauffeur and one in the sidecar.

  • The two-hour option: cost of R1 900 for 2 pax, or R1 710 online for 2 pax
  • The five-hour option: cost of R3 900 for 2 pax, or R3 510 online for 2 pax

Our Red City Tour in Cape Town offers visitors the most direct and hassle-free way to get to Table Mountain. Start your tour from the V&A Waterfront at 8.20am (and from 1 October 2016 to 17 April 2017 at 8am).

No, we do not go to Robben Island since we are a bus service. You can hop off at stop 2 (the Clock Tower) for the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, from where a ferry will take you to this historical site.

No, we do not go to Cape Point, but we do offer a vintage sidecar experience that does. 

No, we do not go to Boulders or Simonstown.

No, the Soweto tour is only offered as a combo with our Joburg Red City Tour.

The first bus departs from the Apartheid Museum at 11.15am and every hour thereafter until 3.15pm, which is the last departure. The Soweto leg of the combo tour is two hours long.

The Sunday Sizzler special is a one-day Joburg Red City Tour ticket for R139. It can only be bought online and it can only be used on Sundays.

Children aged five to 17 years pay R90 for a one-day ticket and R180 for a two-day ticket.

Children under five ride for free (only two children allowed per paying adult).

In Cape Town we offer South African pensioners a 50% discount on all bus and Waterfront Harbour Cruise tickets every Tuesday and Friday (including public holidays). This special is available all year round, except from 14 December to 14 January.

In Joburg we offer South African pensioners a 50% discount on our Red City Tour from Monday to Friday (including public holidays). 

Our Pensioner Special is not available online, but you can buy your ticket at our ticket offices or when you hop on the bus at any of our stops. Just bring your barcoded South African ID along to qualify.

Our Cape Town tour offices are at stop 1 at the V&A Waterfront or stop 5 at 81 Long Street, and you can find our Joburg offices stop 1 at The Zone @ Rosebank. 

The Kids' Club vouchers are valid for four weeks – one week before the date of birth and three weeks after the birthday.

A few terms and conditions to take note of: 

  1. You will receive a free birthday ticket for you and two friends (aged 5 to 15) every year to celebrate your birthday with us, up to and including your 15th birthday. After that, you will need to buy your tickets as usual.
  2. Registrations need to be made a minimum of two weeks prior to the child’s birthday in order to qualify for the free vouchers.
  3. The free vouchers are valid for four weeks – one week before the date of birth and three weeks after the birthday.
  4. The two friends accompanying the child need to be U15 years of age.

No, your Kids' Club voucher is valid for four weeks and can not be extended.

A few terms and conditions to take note of:

In Joburg we provide a free shuttle service for City Sightseeing ticket holders from certain hotels in Sandton and Melrose Arch to our new ticket office and stop at The Zone @ Rosebank. 

No, we do not provide parking. In Cape Town, we recommend parking at the V&A Waterfront – home to our tour office and stop 1 of our tours.

In Joburg, we recommend parking at The Zone @ Rosebank (stop 1).

The Travel Depot is an information and booking hub located at 81 Long Street (stop 5) in Cape Town. Here, locals and visitors will find several tour operators under one roof for their convenience. 

The Travel Depot offers City Sightseeing passengers the opportunity to hop off the bus and have access to the best travel experiences in and around the city. It showcases a range of activities, including helicopter rides, shark cage-diving and more. Cape Town Tourism provides general tourist information.

Yes, you should – unless it's a guide dog. Many of the stops where you'll be hopping off don't allow any animals, but will make provision for a guide dog. 

In the event that you have forgotten something on the bus, please notify us immediately. You can call us on 021 511 6000 or email us at info@citysightseeing.co.za with a description of what you've lost, as well as your contact details. If it has been picked up by a passenger and handed to us or a red bus staff member has found it, we will make sure it is returned to you.
