Customer care

Cape Town: You can start the tour at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend our tour offices outside the Two Oceans Aquarium (stop 1) and at 81 Long Street (stop 5).

Joburg: You can hop on at any of the scheduled stops along the bus route, but we recommend you start your tour from Gautrain Park Station (stop 1), if you're connecting to our Red City Tour via the Gautrain, or Gold Reef City Casino (stop 4) if you're using private transport.

Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. You can hop on and off at Park Station, Carlton Centre, Gold Reef City Casino and the Mining District Walk 365 days a year. Here's a list of the rest of our Red City Tour stops and when they’re closed: 

  • James Hall Museum of Transport: Every Monday, every third weekend of the month, 25 to 26 December
  • Gold Reef City Theme Park: Mondays and Tuesdays (except during Gauteng public school holidays), 25 December
  • Apartheid Museum: 25 December, 1 January
  • Newtown Precinct: SAB World of Beer – 25 December; Sci-Bono Discovery Centre – 25 December, 1 January and Good Friday
  • Newtown Junction Mall: Market Theatre – 21 December 2015 to 3 January 2016
  • Origins Centre at Wits: 25 December 2015 to 4 January 2016
  • Braamfontein: Doubleshot coffee & tea – 16, 25 and 26 December, 1 January
  • Constitution Hill: 25 December, 1 January (note: every other day the last tour is at 2pm and at noon on 31 December)
  • The Maboneng experience: 25 December 2015 to 3 January 2016

Here’s a list of stops on the Soweto leg of our Red City Tour and Soweto Combo that are closed on certain days:

  • Mandela House: 25 December, 1 January
  • Hector Pieterson Museum: 25 December, 1 January
  • Sakhumzi Restaurant: 25 December, 1 January 
  • Vilakazi Street: 31 December

Stops along our routes are open most of the time but there are some exceptions – especially during the festive season. If you’re going to hop on and off with us on Christmas and/or New Year’s Day in Cape Town, please note which stops won’t be open and on which days.

There are three ways to buy tickets:

  • On the bus, at any one of our scheduled stops along the way
  • At our tour offices. In Cape Town, there's one at the V&A Waterfront and one at 81 Long Street. In Joburg, our tour offices are situated at Gautrain Park Station, at OR Tambo International Airport (Hall A) and inside Gold Reef City Casino 
  • Discounted online – buy tickets for Cape Town or Joburg

Yes, all our buses are fully equipped with card facilities. Please note, however, that we do not accept American Express cards.

To hop on, simply print out your ticket and present it to the bus driver. Don't have a printer handy? Bring your barcode number to a City Sightseeing tour office and redeem your ticket. Alternatively, have your barcode scanned by your bus driver as you hop on the bus.

If tickets are purchased at one our of tour offices, they are valid for that day only (or for that day and the following day if you're buying a two-day ticket). If tickets are bought online, they are valid for 14 days from the date of purchase.  

Tickets do not include entrance fees to the stops. However, if you check the back of your ticket, you'll see a list of stops where you'll receive a discount on entrance fees – simply show your City Sightseeing ticket when you enter. 

No, a one-day red bus ticket is valid for an entire day and a two-day ticket for two consecutive days – until the last departure. This means you can hop on and hop off as many times as you'd like at no additional cost.

No, you only have to make a reservation for our sidecar tours. Buying your ticket online, however, entitles you to a discount. Alternatively, purchase your ticket from one of our tour offices or from a bus driver at any of our stops. Seats on the bus are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The Red City Tour includes a stop at Table Mountain.

The Blue Mini Peninsula Tour takes you on a scenic route that includes Kirstenbosch and offers a link to our Purple Wine Tour of Constantia Valley.

In Cape Town you can use it on any of the main tours (Red, Blue, Yellow or Purple). 

In Joburg this ticket is valid for the Red City Tour only. 

  • The two-day ticket costs R280 per adult, while the online price is R260 (save R20)
  • Children aged five to 17 cost R180
  • Children under five can ride for free (only two children allowed per paying adult)

This ticket is valid for two consecutive days and can be used on any of the following tours in Cape Town:

In Joburg, this ticket can be used for two consecutive days on the Red City Tour, giving you plenty of time to discover Jozi. 

Yes, a two-day ticket has to be used over two consecutive days. In Cape Town, the free tours you receive with this deal (Harbour Cruise and Sunset Bus) can be used on the third consecutive day.

Pack your picnic basket, blanket and sunglasses as this tour takes you on an unforgettable sunset trip. It provides glimpses of the sun setting over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Signal Hill and great photo opportunities of Cape Town settling into nightlife.

The Sunset Bus is available from 19 September to 2 May (excluding 6 March 2016) and departs daily from stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront between 5.30pm and 6pm. 

Make sure to arrive at stop 1 half an hour before the departure time. The tour duration is two to three hours.

The Purple Wine Tour is an extension of the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour. It starts at Constantia Nek and takes you into Constantia Valley, where you can explore three wine estates: Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm. 

  • The Purple Wine Tour is included in the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour at no cost
  • Entrance fees, wine tastings and wine are for your own account

Our sidecar tours, in World War II motorcycles with a sidecar, depart daily from bus stop 1 outside the Two Oceans Aquarium, stop 5 at 81 Long Street, or directly from your hotel. This is a private chauffeur-driven tour with a minimum booking of two people per tour. One passenger sits behind the chauffeur and one in the sidecar.

  • The two-hour option: online cost of R1 550 per person or R3 100 for two people
  • The five-hour option: online cost of R775 per person or R1550 for two people

Our Red City Tour in Cape Town offers visitors the most direct and hassle-free way to get to Table Mountain. Start your tour from the V&A Waterfront at 8.20am (and from 1 November 2015 to 29 Feb 2016 at 8am).

No, we do not go to Robben Island since we are a bus service. You can hop off at stop 2 (the Clock Tower) for the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, from where a ferry will take you to this historical site.

No, we do not go to Cape Point, but we do offer a vintage sidecar experience that does. 

No, we do not go to Boulders or Simonstown.

No, the Soweto tour is only offered as a combo with our Joburg Red City Tour.

The first bus departs from Gold Reef City at 10.05am and every hour thereafter. The last bus departs at 2.05pm. The Soweto leg of the combo tour is two hours long if you don't hop off. 

The word Maboneng means “place of light” and it is a privately developed urban neighbourhood on the eastern side of the Johannesburg CBD. It’s a fully-fledged community and home to several independent retailers, restaurants, entertainment venues, loft apartments, hotels, museums and creative factory spaces in a connected urban environment. 

On weekends you can hop off at Carlton Centre (stop 2) and hop on the MABO'go shuttle to Maboneng Precinct. The shuttle operates from 9.30am to 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays only.

Walking to Maboneng is not recommended at all.

If you purchase your ticket online, you can park for free at Gold Reef City Casino (stop 6) all day. Simply show your online ticket as you pass through the security boom. 

We recommend that you start nice and early to make the most of your day on the red bus. The first bus departs at 9am, the next one at 10am, and then every 30 minutes.

Park Station parking costs R8.00 per hour. This parking is run by Prasa and not linked to City Sightseeing in any way.

Joburg Red City Tour: Gold Reef City, Braamfontein or Newtown

Soweto: Vilakazi Street

The Sunday Sizzler special is a one-day Joburg Red City Tour ticket for R129. It can only be bought online and it can only be used on Sundays.

Children aged five to 17 years pay R90 for a one-day ticket and R180 for a two-day ticket.

Children under five ride for free (only two children allowed per paying adult).

In Cape Town we offer South African pensioners a 50% discount on all bus and Harbour Cruise tickets every Tuesday and Friday. This special is available all year round, except from 14 December to 14 January.

In Joburg we offer South African pensioners a 50% discount on our Red City Tour from Monday to Friday. 

Our Pensioner Special is not available online, but you can buy your ticket at our ticket offices or when you hop on the bus at any of our stops. Just bring your barcoded South African ID book along to qualify.

Our Cape Town tour offices are at stop 1 at the V&A Waterfront or stop 5 at 81 Long Street, and you can find our Joburg offices at stop 1 at Gautrain Park Station or at stop 4 at Gold Reef City Casino.   

The Kids' Club vouchers are sent out two weeks before the child's birthday and are valid for a week after their birthday – a total of three weeks.

A few terms and conditions to take note of: 

1. Registrations need to be made a minimum of two weeks prior to the child’s birthday in order to qualify for the free vouchers.

2. The two friends accompanying the child need to be U17 years of age.

No, your Kids' Club voucher is valid for three weeks and can not be extended.

Unless you have arranged a private hire, you need to make your way to the nearest or most convenient bus stop to start our tour. 

No, we do not provide parking. In Cape Town, we recommend parking at the V&A Waterfront – home to our tour office and stop 1 of our tours.

In Joburg, we recommend parking at Gold Reef City Casino (stop 4). If you have an online City Sightseeing ticket, you can park here for the entire day at no cost.

The Travel Depot is an information and booking hub located at 81 Long Street (stop 5) in Cape Town. Here, locals and visitors will find several tour operators under one roof for their convenience. 

The Travel Depot offers City Sightseeing passengers the opportunity to hop off the bus and have access to the best travel experiences in and around the city. It showcases a range of activities, including helicopter rides, ziplining, shark cage-diving and more. Cape Town Tourism provides general tourist information.

Yes, you should – unless it's a guide dog. Many of the stops where you'll be hopping off don't allow any animals, but will make provision for a guide dog.
