Africa's Largest Bird Sanctuary

The hop-on, hop-off City Sightseeing Bus allows you to explore Cape Town at your own pace. The World of Birds is the largest bird park in Africa and one of the few large bird parks in the World. With Cape Town weather providing a tropical garden setting in Hout Bay, this area is a sanctuary for birds, animals and people alike.

The World of Birds has over 3 000 birds and small animals of 400 different species uniquely presented in more than 100 spacious landscaped walk-through aviaries. It is here where one can easily allow oneself to relax and absorb the serenity whist walking within the midst of the most intimate closeness with nature.

These aviaries are spaced over 4 ha of land and framed by the back of Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles, Constantiaberg, Chapman’s Peak and Lion’s Head allowing for some beautiful views.

The World of Birds reserve includes birds of South Africa as well as exotic birds, including ostriches, cormorants, pelicans, penguins, parrots, eagles and other various kinds of birds.

Get a close-up view of all their activities as they feed, sing, display, socialise, build nests, incubate eggs and feed chicks right before your eyes - an unforgettable experience which changes with the seasons. At World of Birds, the birds and animals behave just as they would in the wild, but without fear

The Sanctuary also serves as hospital, orphanage and breeding centre, caring for injured birds and animals, and breeding threatened species behind-the-scenes.

The Monkey Jungle

Take a stroll through the Monkey Jungle and make friends with the inquisitive little Squirrel Monkeys! It is here where you are allowed to interact and come face-to-face with these inquisitive creatures. Squirrel Monkeys are extremely mischievous and might even hop up and sit on your shoulder and play with your hair!
