The beginning of South Africa's rich wine heritage awaits you

The Wine Tour Bus is a FREE extension on the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour. The best place to start your Blue Mini Peninsula tour is at our Ticket Office, Bus Stop 1, outside the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront. From here the first bus leaves at 9h00 on the Blue route.

The tour trip takes you to three wine stops: Beau Constantia Wine Estate, Groot Constantia Wine Estate and Eagles' Nest Wine Farm. Entrance fees and tastings to these wine stops are as follows:

Groot Constantia:  Wine tasting: R30 per adult and R15 per pensioner. Cellar tour and wine tasting of 5 wines: R40 (adult) R20 (pensioner) R6 (student under 18 years). Daily walking vineyard tour and tasting of 5 wines from 2pm daily: R50 per person. * All City Sightseeing travelers receive a R5 discount on the above rates when presenting their ticket *

Beau Constantia: Walking distance from the wine stop interchange. (20m from the circle) Wine tastings - R30. ONLY open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10h00 to 16h30

Eagles' Nest: Wine tastings - R30.  

Constantia is known as the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Cape Town with its sprawling mansions and lush vineyards. This is due to the thriving wine industry that has grown in the region since viticulture was introduced to the area by Simon van der Stel in 1685. The oldest wine farm in the area is Groot Constantia which produces many award-winning wines. It is most famous for its Sauvignon Blanc. 

The open-top double-decker City Sightseeing bus takes you right into the heart of the Constantia Wine Route, with commentary guided tours and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards.

Groot Constantia Wine Estate

The hop-on, hop-off bus drops you off at Groot Constantia where you can walk around the vineyards at your leisure, visit the historical manor house, do a wine tasting or eat lunch in the restaurant.

Historical Journey

Explore the stately Manor House and adjacent Cloete Cellar museum which takes you back to a time when eccentric wine farmer Hendrik Cloete owned Groot Constantia. He produced wines which caught the attention of royalty and threw lavish parties in the vast entertainment hall. The Manor House is a perfect example of early Cape Dutch architecture, while the sculptured gable above the entrance is one of South Africa’s most historically relevant works of art.

Wine Tasting

Enjoy a guided tour through Groot Constantia’s modern wine cellar and see the wine production process in action. Notice the magnificent art works on the walls as you walk into the entrance hall and wine tasting area. Of special interest is the old wine press and Cape Dutch furniture on display. After you’ve worked up a thirst exploring the wine cellar, relax in the elegant wine tasting area and sample the many award-winning vintages available. The wine tasting staff are incredibly knowledgeable and will explain the background of the wines as well as suggest different blends and vintages. Whatever you do, do not leave without tasting the famous Groot Constantia Sauvignon Blanc.

Eagles’ Nest Wine Farm

The boutique winery, Eagles’ Nest is cradled in the breathtakingly beautiful Constantia valley, not far from Groot Constantia. The hop-on, hop-off City Sightseeing bus leaves from Groot Constantia and heads up Constantia Nek where, one stop later, you can hop off at Eagles’ Nest wine tasting centre. Here you can sample some of the region’s best varieties of wine, such as Viognier, Shiraz, and Merlot. Eagles’ Nest wines are a true reflection of the unique terroir of the Constantia valley.

Beau Constantia Wine Estate

Beau Constantia Farm is situated on Constantia Main Road in Constantia, near the top of Constantia Nek and is within 20m walking distance from the wine stop interchange. (ONLY open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10h00 to 16h30) Beau Constantia is situated on the north-facing slope of the Constantia Mountains in Constantia Nek, so it is in the saddle between the Constantia- and Table Mountain ranges. Both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans can be seen from Beau Constantia’s wine tasting room. This boutique wine estate offers 3 wines: Beau Constantia Cecily – Voignier – their flagship wine, Pas De Nom White (82% Sauvignon Blanc, 9% Semillion, 9% Vignier) and Pas De Nom Red (60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot)
