FACTS about Cape Town
Bartholemeu Diaz Statue on Adderley Street, which you pass when on the red route. The statue of the Portuguese mariner is at the bottom of Adderley Street in Cape Town. The Statue reminds us of the hardships and often strange beliefs of the early sailors that traversed the oceans around 1488. The ships they sailed on were no bigger than the modern leisure yacht and were known as Caravels. Sailors were terrified of falling of the edge of the world or worse to be swallowed whole by a giant squid known as Kraken.
