the best way to have an adventure in Cape Town
V&A Waterfront - Stop 2

HELLO TO ALL OUR FRIENDS!

The summer season is truly glorious, with so much happening in and around Cape Town.

The setting of the first Aqua Festival at the V&A Waterfront outside the Two Oceans Aquarium was unique, with daily entertainment provided by the Zip Zap Circus in the afternoon and a variety of concerts at night. It was great to see so many of you attending with your parents.

MEET THE CREW!
MandisaHi everyone! My name is Mandisa. I’m a Cape grey mongoose. I love hanging out in the greener parts of Cape Town, where it’s still quite peaceful. My friends consider me to be very friendly and compassionate. Together with Abie, Blatjan and Salty, I’m part of the crew and I’ll guide you with gentleness and caution!

WHAT ANIMAL WAS SPOTTED ON TABLE MOUNTAIN THIS MONTH?
 puff adder
Table Mountain is home to around 22 snakes. Five of these snakes are deadly: the Cape cobra, the puff-adder, the boomslang, the rinkhals and the berg adder. The good news is that these snakes are mostly shy and therefore avoid human contact. The puff-adder is the snake that you are most likely to encounter, moving at a leisurely pace and enjoying a nice warm path.

Remember that all snakes – venomous or not – can deliver a nasty bite if provoked.

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RED BUS

The website is a one-stop shop with great information about all our stops, including weather, activities, restaurants, entry fees, opinions and suggestions on the destinations. You can now plan on what to do and how long to take before you start exploring with our red bus. The website will probably also be your best tool for your next project about Cape Town! FACTS ABOUT CAPE TOWN
Time-Ball
Look out for the Time Ball Tower at the V&A Waterfront, situated along Dock Road, around the corner from our Stop 1.

Time balls were a visual time signal for ships in port. These ships used them to check their chronometers, instruments for navigation at sea – a ship’s safety does, after all, depend on knowing its exact position. The ball would be manually hoisted to the top of the mast at 12h55 and, at precisely 13h00, it would drop.

Today, the time ball, no longer in use, serves as a reminder of days gone by. Satellites and electronic aids that give precise locations at the push of a button have taken its place.
