The eyes of the world were upon Cape Town recently as we excitedly witnessed D-Day taking place – Draw Day that is!  The results of the Final Draw for the Soccer World Cup see South Africa placed in Group A, alongside Mexico, Uruguay and France and set to play in the opening match of the Soccer World Cup against Mexico.  Soccer fever mounts!

A special welcome to the English cricketers visiting Cape Town at the beginning of January for the third test of the Castle Test Series against South Africa at Newlands – promising some entertaining cricket.

Full Moon
Once in a Blue Moon
Full moon happens once a month, however, a Blue Moon is the name given to an ‘extra’ full moon that usually only occurs every two or three years.  December sees the occurrence of a second full moon on the 31st and, to add to the rarity of this event, a lunar eclipse is also predicted for this day.
For a special experience try a full moon hike up Lions Head and take along a picnic.  The next full moon dates are, 31 December, 30 January and 28 February 2010.

The Pink Flamingo Cinema

South Africa’s first rooftop cinema is situated on the roof of the Grand Daddy Hotel at 38 Long Street, Cape Town.  Screening classic and cult movies on a weekly basis.  The cinema is heated in winter and cooled in summer, making it an experience to enjoy all year round.
All forthcoming movies are listed on the website. Included in the ticket price, each guest receives a cone of sweets, a welcome drink and a choice between an Eskimo Pie, candy floss or popcorn.

Ballet: Cinderella On Ice

Cinderella On Ice is a wonderful and unique interpretation of the classic tale. The J&B Met is South Africa's most prestigious and renowned horse racing events. Included in the ticket price is a R10.00 betting voucher and a J&B™ Met Race card.  A contribution from each ticket sold will be going towards funding the Kenilworth Conservation Area in the middle of the racecourse. This pristine tract of Cape Fynbos is soon to be declared a National Conservation Area due to its conservation significance which includes a number of protected species of both fauna and flora.

Inaugural Test Events at Cape Town Stadium

Three exciting inaugural test matches have been scheduled to take place at the Cape Town Stadium as part of the build up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Although official dates have not been set as yet – this trio of matches that will initiate the Cape Town Stadium are not to be missed!

HOT TIPS

  • Summer is here and we all like to enjoy leisurely days on the beach.   Here's some tips to stay safe in the sun:
    Don’t forget the basics – apply plenty of high SPF sun-block, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and try to stay out of the sun between 11h00 and 15h00.
  • Drink plenty of water – dehydration is deadly!  
  • Swim in areas supervised by a lifeguard and avoid swimming near rocks, piers, or jetties.
  • Don’t leave your personal belongings unattended on the beach.
