For the first time in its more than 300 year history the Groot Constantia wine farm is giving visitors the opportunity to view its spectacular 170 hectare estate from a 4x4 vehicle. Make your way to Groot Constantia Wine Estate by getting onto the Blue Mini Peninsula Tour leaving from our Tour Office outside the Two Oceans Aquarium in the V&A Waterfront. Hop onto the City Sightseeing Wine Bus at the Constantia Nek Wine Stop and get off at Groot Constantia Wine Estate where you’ll make your way to the main cellar for the start of the Adventure Wine Trip.
› Enjoy a guided walking tour through the modern cellar with its rows and rows of wine-filled casks
› Learn about the fine art of wine-making whilst viewing soil samples
› Take part in a private wine tasting of 5 of Groot Constantia’s famous wines
After the cellar tour it’s time to go outdoors and get onto the 4x4 vehicle for an exciting drive during which you will discover the Groot Constantia Wine Estate first hand. An experienced driver will take you past the historic Manor House and into Groot Constantia’s vineyards that have been producing world-class wines since 1685.
On the lower part of the estate you’ll stop to view the magnificent Groot Constantia buildings as seen with Cape Town's mountain range behind them.
› Get off for a photo opportunity of a lifetime and the chance to take home a postcard memory
› Get a feel for the soil and vegetation that all play a part in creating top quality wines
› Keep an eye out for many birds of prey that frequent the area
Groot Constantia’s historic Manor House is perhaps the finest example of Cape Dutch architecture in South Africa. Originally occupied in the 1800s by the then governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, the house was rebuilt to its current form in the 1790s and again restored following a disastrous fire in 1925. Today Constantia’s Manor House is managed by the Iziko Museums of Cape Town and houses an impressive collection of furniture, copperware and artefacts depicting the lifestyle of a successful 1800s Cape farmer.
Nestled at the foot of a mountain range Groot Constantia offers unrivalled views of False Bay and the Boland mountains in the distance. The Adventure Wine Trip ends with a stop on a hill where you’ll get to experience exactly that whilst sipping top-class Groot Constantia Sparkling Wine reserved for very special occasions.
› Look out over the most celebrated wine estate in South Africa while tasting one of its finest products
› Appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the Cape Winelands where mountain slopes and sea breezes create arguably the world’s best winemaking region
Please note the Adventure Wine Trip is a private tour that requires pre-booking. The duration is 2 hours with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 people per tour. To book phone Groot Constantia: +27 (21) 794 5128
